Living in Al Rehab
Al Rehab is a walled city of roughly 10 square kilometres on the north-eastern edge of New Cairo, built by Talaat Moustafa Group from 1997 and planned for around 200,000 people. Villas and low-rise apartment buildings, no towers. Two markets, four malls, schools, a club and a 24-hour emergency room sit inside the gates, which is why most weeks here do not require leaving — and why the distances inside catch people out.

The city is known for extensive green space, with a green belt around its edge and landscaped gardens inside the phases.
The earlier phases were built out first and are the most settled part of the city, with mature tree cover and long-established shops, while the later phases and the Rehab extension were added afterwards to more contemporary designs.
